Pre-student teacher information
The WSU College of Education is proud to collaborate with various school districts in the Metro Detroit Area in the education of future teachers. We take our urban mission seriously and know that our teacher candidates choose our programs because of a desire to make an impact in the lives of children in our urban communities in the Metro Detroit Area.
Pre-student teaching or practicum prepares you to build your confidence in the classroom by pairing you with a mentor teacher where you will have opportunities to learn to plan for instruction and teach collaboratively. You will reflect on and practice a variety of management and instructional methods effectively with individuals, small groups, and a whole class of learners.
If you have any questions, please contact us via email at EDPE@wayne.edu, by phone at 313-577-9880 or stop by and see us! We are located in the College of Education, Room 221.
When should I enroll?
You should plan to complete 2-full days and 1 /2 day per week in an urban classroom for pre-student teaching. You should enroll for pre-student teaching or practicum in the semester before student teaching, when you are close to completing other academic and professional education requirements.
Pre-student teaching application
In order to qualify for pre-student teaching, it is necessary to complete and submit the online application at the link below.
