Kierstin Fiscus currently serves as the executive assistant to the dean in the College of Education at Wayne State University. Prior to joining the College of Education in 2021, she served as an assistant to associate deans in the College of Engineering at Wayne. Before joining Wayne State in 2018, Kierstin worked for the University of Michigan Medical School as a manger, program coordinator, and executive secretary. Kierstin is an out-going, equity-minded, executive-level administrator with 10 years of experience in higher education. Prior to her time in higher education, she worked as a senior legal assistant for the Ada County Prosecutor’s Office in Boise, Idaho.

Kierstin received her bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Washington State University in 2009, her master’s degree in educational leadership and higher education administration from Eastern Michigan University in 2019 and is currently pursuing her doctorate (Ed.D.) in educational leadership and policy studies at Wayne, with an estimated graduation date of May 2025. 

Research Interests

Kierstin’s research focuses on rural education, particularly how rural secondary schools are preparing students for higher education and the association between college exposure programs (such as dual enrollment) and enrollment and persistence rates at non-elite, non-rural, four-year public universities. Kierstin intends to pursue a law degree following the completion of her doctoral degree, with the intention of working in the education law and policy realm.
