Research Interests

My research is focused on examining cardiovascular and metabolic function in healthy and high cardiovascular risk individuals, especially in those with impairments in glucose control. My laboratory utilizes translationally relevant techniques used in the assessment of skeletal muscle oxygenation and oxidative metabolism, evaluation of skeletal muscle microvascular function, appraisal of endothelial-dependent flow-mediated dilation, peripheral resistance, beat-by-beat measurements of blood pressure/cardiac output, breath-by-breath gas analysis. We also perform ex vivo analysis of vascular function in isolated blood vessels and in vitro angiogenic potential experiments to further understand novel mechanisms involved in the pathogenesis of cardiovascular disease in conditions of insulin resistance, diabetes and aging.
