Responsibilities

Christina DeNicolo is an Associate Professor of Bilingual and Bicultural Education in the Division of Teacher Education. She teaches the courses required for endorsements in bilingual education, English as a second language, and world languages, as well as multicultural education.

Research Interests

A primary aim of her research is to examine ways that students’ cultural and linguistic knowledge is accessed as a resource for learning through instructional methods and pedagogical tools such as children’s literature. A secondary aim is to understand how sociopolitical contexts shape the implementation of bilingual education programs, and, in turn, how the programs impact the academic performance of emergent bilingual students who are developing proficiency in two or more languages.
