Chronic absenteeism in schools

Many school districts across the country deal with chronic absenteeism, and a group of Wayne State University researchers have recently explored some of the complex reasons Detroit Public School students are chronically absent, including a lack of transportation and health issues. The pandemic has exacerbated many of these issues, because parents are more apt to keep the kids home if they're sick, while other parents are afraid to send their kids to school because they fear they'll get sick.
