MSU trustees elect Wayne State professor as new board chair

The Michigan State University board of trustees elected a new chair Wednesday morning. Rema Vassar will lead the East Lansing-based university's board for the next two years, succeeding Dianne Byrum, who had led the MSU board for the past four years. Vassar is a professor of educational leadership and policy studies at Wayne State University in Detroit and serves as special adviser to the office of the provost on Black student success in K-12 education and public schools in Detroit. She was elected to the MSU board two years ago for a term ending Jan. 1, 2029.
