A Note from Dean Welch: Celebrating the Positive in the Midst of the Pandemic

Dear Friends,

I hope you and your families are safe and healthy in these unprecedented times. It is a new world as we face the challenges of providing the robust educational experiences our students expect and deserve, while social distancing and working remotely during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Even in these somber days, it is nice to get some good news.

  • Assistant Professor Christine Hancock received the 2020 Outstanding Dissertation Award from the American Educational Research Association's Family, School, Community Partnerships Special Interest Group.
  • Associate Professor Erika Bocknek's article, "4 good practices for anyone caring for quarantined kids," was recently published in The Conversation.
  • The college's Center for Health and Community Impact received $10,000 from the United Dairy Industry of Michigan to support the implementation of the Student Leadership Team program component.
  • Tahani Almugbel, a Ph.D. candidate in the Learning Design and Technology program, created a free, online COVID-19 critical care crash course for physicians in Saudi Arabia.
  • Finally, the college recognized more than 350 students who earned their degrees. You can join us in celebrating their accomplishment; watch our virtual graduation video at wayne.edu/commencement/2020/education.

In this newsletter, we highlight even more of the amazing work that continues in our college amid the pandemic. Thank you for your continued support of the College of Education.

Stay well,

Anita G. Welch
