The Wayne State University College of Education will host its annual Education Job Fair from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, May 4. Wayne State students and alumni who are seeking employment or interested in enhancing their communication, interviewing and networking skills are encouraged to attend. The event is also open to students and graduates from education programs at colleges and universities throughout the state, current education professionals, and others interested in pursuing careers in education. The job fair will be held in the ballroom of the Wayne State Student Center, located at 5221 Gullen Mall in Detroit.

"As a university committed the success of our students, the community and school districts across Michigan, we coordinate this job fair to support those seeking employment in education and to help school districts and other organizations identify candidates for available positions," said Paul Johnson, assistant dean of the Division of Academic Services. "We hope students, alumni and others in the education profession use the fair as an opportunity to network with employers, and we hope recruiters will find and hire the candidates they need."

Recruiters will interview candidates for a variety of positions: teachers, administrators, counselors, school psychologists, school social workers, special education teachers, library-media specialists, speech pathologists and others. About 60 employers are expected to attend.

The job fair is free for participants who register online before May 2. Onsite registration is $10 (cash or check only).

"Individuals with education degrees can offer organizations flexibility," said Mary Waker, Ed.D., academic services advisor and coordinator of the job fair. "Students develop skills in important areas - including technology, critical thinking, problem-solving, public speaking and relationship building - that contribute to their effectiveness and organizational success."

Attendees should bring multiple copies of their resume and cover letter. They should also dress in professional attire.

Registered individuals can use the Career Fair Plus app to access information about the job fair prior to the event. They can view the list of recruiters, see floor plans, use filters to search, star favorite organizations, take notes and get tips for preparing cover letters and resumes, dressing for success and interviewing.

Parking in Structure 5 is recommended. Participants who do not have a Wayne State University OneCard or parking tag will need a credit card for entry and exit. The cost is $7.75.
