Heather Washington, graduate student studying art therapy was among WSU Warriors to take home DIA Student Design Summit Award

Heather Washington

Our students rock! Heather Washington, a graduate student studying art therapy, is all smiles as she celebrates with Jim Brown, Ph.D., coordinator of visual arts education. Heather and the other members of the multidisciplinary team from Wayne State University that recently earned top honors - the Cultural District Jury Award and the People's Choice Award - in the Detroit Institute of Arts' Student Design Summit were honored for their accomplishment during a reception yesterday evening. The WSU team - which is comprised of students from the Wayne State University Urban Studies and Planning; the Wayne State University College of Fine, Performing and Communication Arts; the Wayne State University College of Engineering; and the Wayne State University School of Social Work - beat 22 other student teams. The firm selected to create the plaza will review the students' design and those of three professional teams. The winner will be announced next month. Congratulations and good luck to Heather and the rest of the team! We are proud of you!
