Professor Qin Lai and doctoral student Nick Siekirk partner with faculty in China to improve health, safety and fitness of elderly

Qin Lai, Ph.D. and his doctoral student Nick Siekirk, Ph.D., traveled to Rizhao, Shandong, P.R. China last month. The visit established the Institute of Smart Fitness and Rehabilitation for Aging, an alliance between Zhong Da Sports Industry Group and the Motor Behavior Lab in the Division of Kinesiology, Health and Sports Studies in the Wayne State University College of Education. The institute will focus on collaborative research to create an equipment line focused on the reduction of fall risk and improvement of fitness in the elderly.

Furthermore, Lai and Siekirk conducted a lecture series focused on the application of motor control and learning in sports performance for the Boao Sports Group. Directed by Professor Ying-Bo Zhang of Beijing Sports University, the group is a collective assortment of athletes, coaches and professors.
