Scholarship application available Oct. 1

Support from generous donors makes it possible for the College of Education to provide financial assistance to hundreds of students annually. The college awarded more than $580,000 in scholarships to students for the 2019-20 academic year.

"We appreciate the many individuals who have graciously shared their financial resources with the college," said Mary Barden, director of philanthropy. "Their commitment helps ease the financial burden for many students trying to earn their degree. We are grateful for their ongoing support, which helps hundreds of students get closer to attaining their goal of earning a degree."

The application for the 2020-21 academic year will be available Oct. 1, 2019, through March 1, 2020. Interested students can apply by visiting wayne.academicworks.com and completing the online form.

Applicants must be current or admitted students in the College of Education with a minimum grade point average of 3.0 (graduate students) or 2.5 (undergraduates). To be considered for need-based awards, students must have a completed FAFSA on file with the university by March 1.

Wayne State's application system, AcademicWorks, makes applying fast and easy. By submitting a general application, students are automatically matched with college-based and university-wide scholarships they are qualified to receive. College of Education students must submit an additional form to receive consideration for more awards.

"Students should complete the university's application as well as the college's supplemental application to qualify for as many scholarships as possible," said Julie Osburn, director of the Office of Research and chair of the college's scholarship committee. "The College of Education offers more than 130 different awards, and we want to use all of them to benefit our students."
