The Visual Arts Education and Art Therapy Department opened its annual student exhibition on Thursday, May 30, in the Art Department Gallery in the Community Arts Building on the main campus of Wayne State University. The exhibition showcases the breadth of exploration and talent of the students in both programs. The artwork features a wide range of approaches from which students derive their inspiration, ideas, and creations. The exhibition represents processes of looking closely and looking far through various mediums and concepts, considering how and where final works of art presented and perceived.

At the opening reception, the students presented James Brown, Ph.D. with an award for their appreciation for his part in their journey through the Art Education program. Brown is retiring after 16 years at the university. Holly Feen, Ph.D. was presented with the Jane Betsy Welling Award in recognition of her commitment and dedication to the students of the Art Education programs in the College of Education Wayne State University.

The exhibition will be open through Monday, June 10, 2019, and gallery hours are Tuesday through Friday from 12 to 5 p.m.
