William Hill named assistant dean
William E. Hill, Ed.D. ’03 has been named assistant dean of the Division of Administrative and Organizational Studies and the Division of Theoretical and Behavioral Foundations in the Wayne State University College of Education. The appointment is effective immediately.
Since 2013, Hill has served as interim assistant dean of the Division of Administrative and Organizational Studies. He has led the Division of Theoretical and Behavioral Foundations in the same capacity for the last two years. He will continue to provide oversight of academic programs and direction to faculty in both divisions as well as teach courses in educational leadership and policy studies.
“Bill has demonstrated his continued commitment to Wayne State during the nine years he has served as interim assistant dean,” said Boris Baltes, interim dean and associate provost for faculty affairs. “I am pleased to make this appointment in recognition of his hard work and success as an administrator. I look forward to working with him to advance the mission and vision of the college and university.”
From 2015 to 2019, Hill directed the Leonard Kaplan Education Collaborative for Critical Urban Studies. During that time, the collaborative hosted several community conversations focused on pressing issues in education, produced interdisciplinary and locally relevant research, and was selected as the recipient of the American Association of University Administrators’ 2017 John L. Blackburn Award, which recognizes outstanding examples of college/university leadership that demonstrate creative solutions to common problems in higher education.
Hill has worked at Wayne State for 34 years. He previously worked in the Office of the Provost, where he held various positions, including director of the Metropolitan Detroit Alliance for Minority Participation and assistant vice president for academic affairs. In that role, he was responsible for summer school and six extension centers — including the Oakland Center in Farmington Hills, the Wayne County Center in Northwest Detroit and the Macomb Center in Macomb County — in the metropolitan Detroit area.
An alumnus of Wayne State, Hill is currently chair of the American Association of University Administrators, a nonprofit professional organization for higher education leaders and administrative personnel.
