The Wayne State University College of Education, in conjunction with the Young Educators Society (YES) Organization, the COE Pre-Morris Hood/Morris Hood Scholars Programs and the WSU Student African American Brotherhood (SAAB) Organization, will host the 2016 YES Conference on Friday, May 6, 2016, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., in the WSU Student Center Building.

This year's conference theme is "#Teaching #Learning #Inspiring: What is Your Educational Hashtag?" The College of Education will host 300 high school students, their advisors and YES Executive Board Members in a full day of engaging workshops and activities aimed at promoting careers in teaching, academic excellence, student development, and college readiness. The program will begin with a college fair and a high-powered welcome from the WSU Cheer Team followed by renowned speaker, educator, engineer, author, activist and entrepreneur, Dr. Joseph Kimbrough. Dr. Kimbrough will address "Apathy, Opportunity and Education". The conference will also include a scholarship presentation and lunch in the WSU Towers Café.

About the Young Educators Society:
YES is a state-wide organization whose mission is to increase exposure and participation in a teacher preparation program. A goal of YES is to increase the diversity composition of students in our nation's schools, especially urban schools in the field of Education. Higher Education representatives include: Eastern Michigan University (EMU), Michigan State University (MSU), University of Michigan (U of M), Western Michigan University (WMU), Saginaw Valley State University (SVSU) and Wayne State University (WSU).
