Youth Mental Health First Aid Training

The School of Social Work is offering the following training opportunity to COE students:

Youth Mental Health First Aid USA is an interactive, 8-hour educational course that introduces participants to risk factors and warning signs of youth mental health concerns, builds understanding of their impact, and overviews common treatments. It is a nationally-recognized public health initiative, endorsed by President Obama in response to the Sandy Hook tragedy. It is meant for anyone who interacts with children or adolescents, and participants receive 3-year certification in Youth Mental Health First Aid upon completion of the training. It is NOT meant to teach participants to diagnose or treat a mental illness, but simply to provide initial help- similar to a regular first aid course.

Students can participate in this training at no cost, through a federal grant via AmeriCorps and a partnership with Michigan AHEC. Flyer Information.
