Early & Elementary Master of Teaching (M.A.T) and Post-Bachelor (P.B.)

We are excited to share our new elementary Post-Bachelor (PB) teacher certification program. Our Early & Elementary Education program will offer two certification bands: Pk-3 and/or 3-6 as well as the option to add endorsements.

Important dates

  • August 15: Application for Fall

  • December 15: Application for Winter

  • April 15: Application for Spring/Summer

Application Process

Student should not apply for the M.A.T./Post-Bachelor certification program until you have completed the steps below.

  1. Student interested in the program, should first attend a virtual Teacher Certification Information Meeting.
  2. Complete a Request for Transcript Evaluation.
    1. This process will determine which prerequisites, if any, you need to complete before admission to the P.B./M.A.T. certification program.
    2. Meet with advisor to discuss the evaluation and the program.

Program Benefits

  • In both the Post-Bachelor and MAT certification program, students earn a Michigan Elementary Standard Teaching Certificate.
  • Students in the MAT earn a Master of Arts in Teaching.
  • Clinical experiences are integrated throughout the certification sequence.
  • Students receive mentoring and coaching from their advisors, faculty, instructional coaches, and mentor teachers.
  • Students have an opportunity to apply for endowed College of Education scholarships.
