Applied Behavior Analysis
An interactive, discussion-based, online program that trains practitioners extensively in Applied Behavior Analysis, with a focus on treating autism. Students complete this program in three total semesters, beginning in the fall semester as a cohort model. Coursework will be completed in the following format, fall, winter and the following fall. Our program emphasizes the importance of intensive learning while in the program as well as the need for collaborative lifelong learning. It is recommended that students apply the January before their sophomore or junior year.
The minor provides solid preparation in social behaviors. The minor will prepare students for professional roles in human service, clinic, or school settings. Further it supports the development for graduates to be competitive in graduate studies.
Community Health
The minor in Community Health (CH) Education is for undergraduate students majoring in other disciplines. The minor provides an excellent opportunity for students to broaden their knowledge of the social and behavioral aspects of health promotion and policy. In addition, the program enhances career prospects and establishes a solid base for pursuing a Master of Science in Community Health.
Deaf Studies
A Deaf Studies minor will prepare students to work in a variety of settings such as education, human services (social work, health care, counseling), government, and business. According to disabilitycompendium.org, in 2018, there were an estimated 11,514,337 people who are deaf or hard of hearing in the U.S, and 386,415 people who are deaf or hard of hearing in Michigan.
Exercise and Sport Science
The minor in Exercise and Sport Science (ESS) Education is for undergraduate students majoring in other disciplines. The minor provides an excellent opportunity for students to broaden their knowledge of the social and behavioral aspects of improving human performance. In addition, the program enhances career prospects and establishes a solid base for pursuing a Master of Science in Exercise and Sport Science.
Instructional Design
Are you looking for a minor that can complement your major and improve your marketability? The minor in instructional design is for current undergraduates who want to make an impact by developing authentic, engaging, equitable, and inclusive learning experiences. Leverage your love of technology to become a driver of change in designing learning experiences in corporate, government, and nonprofit settings. Our courses teach you to use learning theories and design thinking to develop digital learning experiences, by way of employee training or courses, to optimize organizational performance. You will learn how to use empathy, creativity, problem-based learning, and technology to generate organizational learning solutions for real-world challenges. Strengthen your communication, critical thinking, collaboration, and leadership skills as you prepare for careers in an industry with increasing demand, above-average salaries, and excellent work-life balance.
Sport Coaching
The sport coaching education minor is designed to give students majoring in a variety of disciplines an opportunity to prepare for the demands of the coaching profession. Students will select courses from a variety of coaching related disciplines including exercise and sport science, health and physical education, sport management, lifestyle activities, nutrition, management, and education-related courses, providing the foundational coaching concepts. With the need for coaches to have academic preparation and practical training in sport coaching settings, the minor in sport coaching education provides students with knowledge and skills related to the coaching profession to expand employment opportunities and add capabilities for students interested in pursuing a career in athletic coaching or related fields.
Sport and Exercise Psychology
The sport and exercise psychology minor is intended to give students, across the university the opportunity to add sport and exercise psychology knowledge and skills to their degree. Students who enroll in the minor will take courses that will give them the foundational knowledge of sport psychology. Students will also select from courses that investigate mindfulness, behavioral change, and sport leadership. The addition of a sport and exercise psychology minor will expand employment opportunities and capabilities for students interested in pursuing a career field that involves leading and working with people in a variety of professions.
Sport Management
The sport management minor is designed to give students majoring in other disciplines an opportunity to hone knowledge and skills specific to the business of sport. Students will select courses of interest, including options in sport marketing, management, ethics, sociology and administration. The sport management minor will provide students with the academic foundation to enhance their marketability for highly competitive careers in the sports industry.
Urban Education and Equity Studies
A minor in Urban Education and Equity Studies (UEES) for undergraduate students majoring in other disciplines consists of eighteen credit hours (at least eight credits for required courses and ten credits for electives). The eighteen credit hours must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5, with no course grade below “C”. The minor provides an excellent opportunity for students interested in pursuing a career in education, planning, policy and program development, and with social service and community organizations, as well as graduate and professional studies centered in urban ecologies.
Yoga and Mindfulness
The Yoga and Mindfulness minor allows undergraduate students in any department across all schools and colleges at WSU to add yoga and mindfulness skills and knowledge as a credential to their degree programs. The addition of a Yoga and Mindfulness minor will expand employment opportunities and add expertise in yoga and mindfulness philosophy and theory, holistic health promotion, knowledge of body movement and mechanics, and leading others in yoga and mindfulness programs, which may be useful in many different career settings.
