To assist you in your advance planning, here are course schedules currently planned for TeachDetroit:

Fall Semester

Required courses

  • ELE 6500 Teaching Science

  • ELE 6220 Teaching Literacy 1
  • TED 5150 Field Experience

Winter Semester

  • BBE 5000 Multicultural Education
  • TED 5780 Field Experience
    • 20 hours per week plus seminar

  • Complete CPR training

Spring/Summer Semester

  • ELE 6070 Detroit Families, Schools, and Community

Optional Fourth Semester

For students who need more field experience, or wish to spread courses out over four semesters

  • TED 5780 Field Experiencde for students who are not yet proficient in teaching skills
  • Other required coursework as need by the individual student

Recommended courses (not required)

  • EDP 6210 Foundations of Educational Psychology

Master's in Teaching

  • ED 7999 Master's Seminar
  • EHP 7600 Philosophy of Education

Schedules are always subject to change, so we recommend that you check periodically to ensure that your desired course(s) will actually be offered.  Elective courses tend to change more often than courses making up the TeachDetroit Core.

Our signature pedagogy in TeachDETROIT is to weave academic learning about teaching into your field experience, and in a typical year we launch the program with a summer school experience that embodies that foundational idea.
